About Us

Nepal Micro/Mini Hydropower Development Association (NMHDA) is a pioneering organization representing privately run companies and firms dedicated to advancing the micro hydropower sector in Nepal. Established on December 11, 1992, by eight forward-thinking firms, NMHDA has played a transformative role in accelerating the development of micro hydropower across the country.

As the sole association of private sector stakeholders in Nepal’s micro hydropower landscape, NMHDA is registered with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). For over four decades, our members have significantly contributed to harnessing Nepal’s abundant micro hydropower resources. To date, more than 2,500 micro hydro plants have been installed, delivering essential and sustainable energy solutions to rural villages. These plants have not only become a vital source of energy for remote communities but have also empowered rural populations, especially women, by reducing their workload and saving valuable time.

NMHDA members are actively involved in every aspect of micro hydropower development to ensure its sustainability. From project identification, surveys, and design to installation, research, manufacturing, and repair & maintenance, our members provide diverse expertise and comprehensive services. Together, we are committed to fostering innovation, promoting clean energy, and enhancing the quality of life in Nepal’s rural areas through the power of micro hydropower.
